Overall she's a great bike for the price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Ashwell. The brakes were very good, but again these required a bit of tweaking to get them right. The Sturmey Archer gears are great, and I love the twist grip which was always my preference these will require adjustment after the first few miles of use. I wasn't too keen on the cheap looking pedals but these have since been upgraded.

I've found the saddle to be amazingly comfy even on longer rides I did try a far more expensive famous British brand but the saddle definitely wasn't for me (no padding). She feels quite Dutch in character, and yes the metal chain guard does rattle over bumps but this is to be expected another far more expensive brand uses plastic but this was my choice and adds character in my opinion - Do make sure the chain isn't scraping though as mine was and the guard required quite a bit of re-adjustment courtesy of hubster to fix this problem ! She's a much nicer color than depicted here, and the basket & pannier are fabulous additions too. I've had her a month now and I'm wondering how I ever managed without her. She is beautiful to look at and rides nice and smooth, she is well made and the twist gears are easy to use but a little low meaning you can not tear up the tarmac, that said how fast would you want to ride a Dutch style circle, I keep the chain tension correct to stop any chain slap I brought my cycle just before the first lockdown and used it most dry days , Although the chain makes an annoying noise. I might have expected better for this price, but was disappointed.īeautiful. It ticks some of the boxes and is was rusting VERY quickly.
